Christmas markets in Mallorca
On Mallorca, numerous Christmas markets create a contemplative atmosphere in the run-up to Christmas and offer an attractive range of activities for the whole family. We have selected a few special Christmas markets for you below.
Santa Ponsa: November 25 to December 17
This year, the market in Santa Ponça, which is very popular with the German-speaking public, will take place again. The Christmas market in Santa Ponça, organized by Holger Becker, will open its doors again in 2023. It traditionally begins on the last Saturday in November (25.11.) and ends on the Sunday before Christmas (17.12.). In 2022, the market was canceled because the municipality of Calvià wanted to double the rental costs for the site. Becker confirms that he is now paying the original price. The market will once again feature familiar elements such as huts, tents, a cookie stall and a Lego stall. New this year are some musicians, as some of the previous ones are no longer on the island.
Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 17:00 to 22:00, on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 to 22:00. Children receive presents on St. Nicholas Day (6.12.). There is also a flea market parallel to the Christmas market, which attracts many visitors every year. There is a flea market for children on November 26 and December 10, while adults can go bargain hunting on December 3.
Pueblo Espanol: December 1 to December 17
In the Pueblo Español, a “Spanish village” in Palma’s Son Espanyolet district, there will be a Christmas atmosphere from December 1 to 17. Visitors can look forward to artificial snow, mulled wine (included in the entrance fee), children’s entertainment and over 60 stalls.
Opening hours vary:
- December 01 to 10 from 13:00 to 23:00
- December 11 to 14 from 17:00 to 22:00
- December 15 to 17 from 13:00 to 23:00
The market attracts a particularly large number of German-speaking visitors every year. Children have the opportunity to hand in their wish lists and take photos with Santa Claus. New this year are mini-shows, including a fire show, which will be presented to all guests as well as in private demonstrations, explains organizer Tatiana Pilati. In addition to live music and DJ performances, food and drink will also be provided. Various stands will be selling arts and crafts, decorations and accessories. There are still a few stands available; interested parties can apply by emailing [email protected].
Admission is 10 euros for adults, 5 euros for children aged 9 to 15 and free for younger children. A glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate is included. Tickets can also be purchased online for the first time, avoiding queues at the entrance, according to Pilati.
City of Palma: November 23 to January 7
The Christmas market in the city of Palma will be open daily from November 23 to January 7 from 10:00 to 21:00. A major change this year is the relocation of the stalls from Plaça d’Espanya to the Parc de ses Estacions due to renovation work on the square. The locations on the Rambla and Plaça Major remain unchanged.
Children’s attractions, which have been popular in previous years, will also be set up outside the Parc de ses Estacions this year. The organizers plan to divide the market into different areas in order to make each area appealing to the public. The exact layout of the stalls is still to be decided, depending on the number of stall holders who confirm their participation.
The food and sweets stands will also be moved to the Parc de ses Estacions. This year, the focus will be particularly on local products, and artisans will be given more space to present their work to visitors.
Security and order will be ensured by local police officers and a private security service.
Son Amar: December 1 to December 22
The Christmas Wonderland at the Son Amar event area invites you to a festive experience on all Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as on December 5 and 6 from December 1 to 22. Palma – an absolute dream of Christmas lights
The pre-Christmas season in Mallorca officially begins on Thursday, November 23, and promises a festive atmosphere. Every year, this event attracts thousands of visitors and is considered an essential part of the Mallorcan calendar of events. The switching on of the Christmas lights in Palma’s old town is a special highlight where crowds gather to enjoy dance and music performances and take countless photos.
This year, the festive lighting on Passeig des Born and Plaça de la Reina in Palma de Mallorca will take place on Thursday, November 23 at 6pm. In 2022, 282 kilometers of garlands of lights, 1106 illuminated trees and almost 2000 balls and stars adorned the streets of the capital of the Balearic Islands. Traditionally, a child, an organization or an association is chosen to symbolically switch on the lights, accompanied by astonished exclamations from onlookers.
After the ceremony, the whole city shines in glorious light, including Plaça de Cort and Plaça Mayor. Even the small alleyways and shopping streets are festively illuminated.
Further details about the event, such as time and location, can be found on the official event page. Here you will also find information on other Christmas events in Mallorca, such as the popular German Christmas market in Santa Ponça and the Christmas market in Palma’s Plaça d’Espanya, which has to take place at a different location this year. Please allow plenty of time for your arrival in Palma, as the capital will be in a state of emergency from the early afternoon onwards. Thousands of people stream into the city center, making it very difficult to find a parking space. We recommend arriving by bus, cab or on foot.
