The Palma Congress Centre as a success factor for the economy
Last year at the Palma Congress Centre, a total of 226 events with 61,476 participants took place. The convention centre and the associated Meliá hotel thus recorded revenues of €16.2 million in 2022, according to those responsible. The hotel registered 65,438 room nights with a total of 107,966 overnight guests. In addition, there were a further 35,000 overnight stays in other hotels in the city directly related to events at the convention centre. The convention centre thus proves to be an important success factor for the economy in Palma. €22.5 million was spent in the city in 2022 around the congresses and conferences. These figures were provided by the The new director, Natalia Seoane, released new figures at the end of February. According to Ms Seoane, these are the best results in the five-year existence of the congress centre. Palma de Mallorca as a congress destination achieved the best results of all destinations in Spain, a spokesperson for Meliá added.
For 2023, the convention centre is also already heavily booked – a congress by a software company in January and the Mercedes-Benz event with 12,500 international participants, which is still ongoing until 7 April, are leading to an almost 100% occupancy of the convention centre, according to those responsible. Further into 2023, 12 more congresses and numerous smaller events are planned. And even for the year 2024, there are already six confirmed congresses, a large proportion of them with a medical background.
