Although Mallorca is known for its pleasant subtropical climate, there are also days when the weather is not so good – whether due to rain, wind, or gray clouds. The south receives an average of around 400 millimeters of rain per year, while the north can see up to 1,400 millimeters. However, even in the winter months, it rarely rains on more than six days per month. These six days can be used to explore the alternative sides of Mallorca.
Experience the culture in Palma de Mallorca

The capital city of Palma is an ideal destination for rainy days. Palma has a variety of attractions, with the cathedral and museums being particularly noteworthy. The cathedral "La Seu", translated from Catalan as "the bishop's seat") is one of the city's landmarks. With its Gothic architecture, it offers a beautiful view of the sea on the shore of Palma Bay. Inside the cathedral, you can admire works by Antoni Gaudí in the Catalan Modernisme style (Art Nouveau) and Miquel Barceló, who redesigned the Chapel of the Blessed Sacrament in the right aisle, as well as the tomb of Clement VIII, who served as the legitimate bishop of Palma.
In addition to the cathedral, you can also discover the royal palace, Palacio de la Almudaina . Originally, the Almudaina was an Arab fortress built in the 10th century during Moorish rule in Mallorca. After the Christian reconquest in the 13th century, it was converted into a royal palace and has since served as the official summer residence of the Spanish royal family.

One museum worth visiting is the Es Baluard Museum for contemporary art, which displays works by Spanish and international artists, including Joan Miró, Pablo Picasso, and Eduardo Chillida. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are regularly changing exhibitions that showcase the current art scene. The museum's terrace also offers spectacular views over the bay of Palma and the old town, making a visit not only a cultural but also a visual experience.
Other recommended museums include the Museu Fundación Juan Marc, which houses a collection of 20th-century Spanish art and temporary exhibitions in a magnificent setting in the heart of Palma's old town, and the Museu de Mallorca. The latter is divided into several collections, including archaeology, which presents finds from the Talaiot culture and the Roman era, and ethnography, which provides insights into traditional life and crafts in Mallorca. Another focus is on the visual arts, with works from the Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque periods that illustrate the artistic development of the region.
2. Trip to the stalactite caves

Furthermore, to escape the weather, it is worth visiting the stalactite caves deep underground. Among the most famous are the Cuevas del Drach in Porto Cristo, which are famous for their huge underground lake, the "Lago Martel." After a one-hour tour, visitors can enjoy a classical concert on the lake while the musicians glide through the illuminated caves in boats.
Also worth seeing are the Cuevas de Artà in the north, which impress with their columns and huge domes, as well as the Cuevas de Campanet and Cuevas de Génova, which are a quieter and less crowded alternative. Each of these caves has its own character and charm, but all offer an unforgettable journey into the hidden secrets of the island.
