Autumn in Mallorca is a season that probably shows the island at its most beautiful. After the warm summer months, it offers the opportunity to enjoy nature and devote yourself to other leisure activities, especially outdoor activities. The grape harvest, local cuisine, long hikes in enchanting landscapes, but also culture, diverse sights, and golf courses make Mallorca attractive in autumn. Whether you are a property owner in Mallorca and are planning your next stay, or are just visiting on vacation, autumn in Mallorca will give you a whole new perspective on this beautiful island.

The climate and nature in autumn

Autumn brings cooler weather to the island: while temperatures often exceed 30°C in summer, they drop to pleasant levels between 20 and 25°C in autumn. The sea also remains warm into November, so beach days and boat trips can be extended into late fall. However, occasional rainfall is to be expected in fall, but this is usually short and intense. October is the rainiest month, but this is much needed after the hot summer. The rate of precipitation then drops again in November and December.

Nature in Mallorca is therefore particularly picturesque in autumn. The landscape, which recovers from the summer heat thanks to the rain, makes the island glow in rich green. In the Tramuntana mountains, hiking trails offer spectacular views of the coast and the autumnal vegetation. Olives and grapes ripen in the rural areas, while the mild temperatures also enliven the wildlife – birds on their migratory route often stop off on the island. The beaches and bays are quieter, the water is still pleasantly warm, and the coastal landscape invites you to take a stroll. Autumn is the ideal time to discover Mallorca's nature and enjoy its tranquility.

Autumn is also the time for the grape and olive harvests. Mallorca's wineries offer tours and tastings at this time of year. The grapes become ripe and sweet, and the grape harvest is an important moment in the Mallorcan annual cycle. The olive trees are also ready for harvesting, and many farms invite visitors to take part in harvest tours, where they can learn about traditional olive pressing and taste fresh olive oil.

Can Det Mallorca Wine and Restaurant

A visit to Can Det in Sóller is highly recommended. Throughout the year, the estate offers guided tours of the historic house, garden, and oil mill, followed by a tasting of typical Mallorcan specialties such as bread, olives, Ramallet tomatoes, and fresh orange juice. Between October 15 and January 15, visitors to Can Det can experience olive oil production live. A visit certainly highlights the value of the Serra de Tramuntana, which is recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site due to its unique cultural landscape with dry stone walls, terraced fields, and historic water channels.

A tour of Finca Treurer also offers insights into olive cultivation and olive oil production. During a guided tour of the olive groves, visitors learn about Mallorcan traditions and olive oil production. At the end of the tour, Treurer offers a tasting session where various olive oils and regional specialties are served to give visitors a culinary insight into Mallorcan culture. The tour, which lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, is available in English, Spanish, and Catalan and costs €48 for adults.

Finally, Vinosenz is worth mentioning for a unique wine experience. Here, guests can book a pick-up and be driven to traditional wineries, where they can learn more about the production of local wines and taste them in unique settings. You can choose between different wine tasting packages, so that Mallorcan specialties are served alongside the wines. This excursion combines wine knowledge with unforgettable views of Mallorca's landscape.

Autumn festivals

The unique Castell Son Claret will open its doors for the 10th time in March this year. Autumnal cuisine in Mallorca

Santi Tauri Restaurant

It's not just wine tours that invite you to enjoy culinary experiences in autumn; restaurants in Mallorca also adapt to seasonal produce. Dishes featuring mushrooms, pumpkin, chestnuts, and wild herbs are increasingly on offer. Restaurants and markets offer seasonal menus that capture the flavors of autumn. Particularly popular is "tumbet," a vegetable dish that is perfect for the season. Three recommended restaurants in Mallorca that offer seasonal dishes in autumn are: Restaurante Santi Taura in Palma, which is known for its authentic Mallorcan cuisine and offers dishes with fresh mushrooms and regional vegetables in autumn. Bens d'Avall, which combines spectacular sea views with traditional Mallorcan cuisine, and Celler Sa Premsa in Palma. This restaurant is also known for its authentic cuisine and offers seasonal specialties that perfectly capture the essence of fall. Here, you should try the "Tumbet" and enjoy various mushroom and pumpkin dishes. The cozy atmosphere and generous selection of regional wines round off the culinary experience and make it a popular destination for gourmets.

The island's weekly markets are ideal for a morning outing. In Sineu or Santa Maria, for example, there is a wide range of fresh, local products on offer, and autumn is the best time to buy olives, wines, cheeses, and meat specialties. The weekly market in Sineu takes place every Wednesday, and the market in Santa Maria takes place on Sundays.

Activities in autumn

Cala Tuent—an alternative to Sa Calobra

Autumn is the perfect time to explore the Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Temperatures are pleasant and the autumnal landscape offers impressive panoramic views. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced hiker, there are suitable routes for every level. In the Serra de Tramuntana, the picturesque village of Valldemossa and the route along the Cúber and Gorg Blau reservoirs are particularly recommended, offering fascinating panoramic views of the mountains and the valley. Deià is another starting point for hikes and also offers insights into Mallorcan culture. A particularly recommended route leads from Banyalbufar to the fishing village of Port d'es Canonge. The route offers fascinating views of bays along the coast. Another classic is the trail from Port de Sóller to Deià, which leads through olive groves and holm oak forests. For families or beginners, the easy hike from Port de Pollença to Cala Bóquer is ideal – an easy two-hour tour with the opportunity to swim in the quiet bay.

Autumn is also ideal for cyclists and attracts many international cycling enthusiasts. From challenging mountain tours to relaxed coastal rides, Mallorca offers a wide variety of options. The mild weather means that even longer distances can be covered without overheating, and the landscapes provide an impressive backdrop. Cyclists can enjoy the Ma-10, which winds through the Tramuntana mountains and offers spectacular coastal views. For a more relaxed route, we recommend the route along the bay of Alcúdia, which combines coastal landscapes and rolling hills.

Finally, conditions in autumn are also ideal for water sports. The beaches are less crowded, the water is still warm, and there is often a light breeze. Water sports enthusiasts will find less frequented spots with clear water and quiet beaches in bays such as Cala Figuera or Cala Varques. The bay of Pollença is also an ideal starting point for sailors and windsurfers, as it is well protected and offers stable wind conditions.

Autumn in Mallorca is a particularly inviting season, when the island reveals its beauty and cultural treasures. With mild temperatures and breathtaking scenery, it is the ideal time to explore the Tramuntana mountains on a hike, immerse yourself in wine and olive oil production, or cycle along the coast. Culinary delights abound in the fall season, from freshly harvested produce at the markets to seasonal dishes in the restaurants. Events such as local markets and festivals like the Fira de Tardor further enrich the experience and offer insights into Mallorcan culture that are not to be missed.
