Christmas markets in Mallorca 2023

In Mallorca, numerous Christmas markets create a festive atmosphere in the run-up to Christmas and offer attractive activities for the whole family. Below, we have selected a few special Christmas markets and their dates that we recommend you visit around Christmas 2023.

Santa Ponsa: November 25 to December 17

This year, the market in Santa Ponça, which is very popular with German-speaking visitors, will take place again. The Christmas market in Santa Ponça, organized by Holger Becker, will open its doors again in 2023. It traditionally begins on the last Saturday in November (November 25) and ends on the Sunday before Christmas (December 17). In 2022, the market was canceled because the municipality of Calvià wanted to double the rental costs for the site. Becker confirms that he is now paying the original price. The market will once again feature familiar elements such as huts, tents, a cookie stand, and a Lego stand. New this year are some musicians, as some of the previous ones are no longer on the island.

The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., and on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. On St. Nicholas Day (December 6), children receive gifts. Parallel to the Christmas market, there is also a flea market that attracts many visitors every year. There is a flea market for children on November 26 and December 10, while adults can hunt for bargains on December 3.

Pueblo Espanol: December 1 to December 17

Mallorcan Christmas will be celebrated from December 1 to 17, 2023, at Pueblo Español, a "Spanish village" in the Son Espanyolet district of Palma. Visitors can look forward to artificial snow, mulled wine (included in the admission price), children's entertainment, and over 60 market stalls.

Opening hours vary:

  • December 1 to 10, from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • December 11 to 14, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
  • December 15 to 17, from 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Every year, the market attracts a particularly large number of German-speaking visitors. Children have the opportunity to hand in their wish lists and have their photo taken with Santa Claus. New this year are mini-shows, including a fire show, which will be presented to all guests as well as in private performances, explains organizer Tatiana Pilati. In addition to live music and DJ performances, food and drink will also be available. Various stands will offer handicrafts, decorations, and accessories. There are still a few stands available; interested parties can apply by emailing mercadodenavidad2023@gmail.com.

Admission prices are €10 for adults, €5 for children aged 9 to 15, and free for younger children. A glass of mulled wine or hot chocolate is included. Tickets can now also be purchased online for the first time, which will help to avoid queues at the entrance, according to Pilati.

City of Palma: November 23 to January 7

The Christmas market in Palma will be open daily from November 23 to January 7, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. A significant change this year is that the stalls will be moved from Plaça d'Espanya to Parc de ses Estacions due to renovation work on the square. The locations on La Rambla and Plaça Major will remain unchanged.

Children's attractions that have been popular in previous years will also be set up outside the Parc de ses Estacions this year. The organizers plan to divide the market into different areas to make each area appealing to the public. The exact layout of the stands is still to be decided, depending on the number of stand operators who confirm their participation.

The food and candy stands will also be relocated to Parc de ses Estacions. This year, there will be a special focus on local products, and artisans will be given more space to present their work to visitors.

Local police officers and a private security service ensure safety and order.

Son Amar: December 1 to December 22

Christmas Wonderland at the Son Amar event venue invites visitors to enjoy a festive experience every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from December 1 to 22, as well as on December 5 and 6. Visitors can look forward to over 25 stalls, live shows, and an artificial ice rink. There will also be an opportunity to take photos with Santa Claus.

Palma – an absolute dream of Christmas lights

The pre-Christmas season in Mallorca officially begins on Thursday, November 23, and promises a festive atmosphere. Every year, this event attracts thousands of visitors and is considered an essential part of the Mallorcan calendar of events. The switching on of the Christmas lights in Palma's old town is a special highlight, with crowds gathering to enjoy dance and music performances and take countless photos.

This year, the festive lighting ceremony will take place on Passeig des Born and Plaça de la Reina in Palma de Mallorca on Thursday, November 23, at 6 p.m.. In 2022, 282 kilometers of light garlands, 1,106 illuminated trees, and almost 2,000 baubles and stars decorated the streets of the Balearic capital. Traditionally, a child, organization, or association is chosen to symbolically switch on the lights, accompanied by gasps of amazement from the spectators.

After the ceremony, the entire city is bathed in magnificent light, including the town hall square, Plaça de Cort, and Plaça Mayor. Even the small alleys and shopping streets are festively illuminated.

Further details about the event, such as the time and location, can be found on the official event website. Here you will also find information about other Christmas events in Mallorca, such as the popular German Christmas market in Santa Ponça and the Christmas market on Palma's Plaça d'Espanya, which has to be held at a different location this year. Please allow plenty of time to arrive in Palma, as the capital will be in a state of emergency from the early afternoon onwards on this day. Thousands of people flock to the city center, making it very difficult to find parking. We recommend traveling by bus, taxi, or on foot.
