Christmas markets in Mallorca 2023

In the run-up to Christmas, numerous Christmas markets in Mallorca create a festive atmosphere and offer an attractive programme for the whole family. Below, we have selected some special Christmas markets and their dates which we can recommend for a visit around Christmas 2023. 

Santa Ponsa: 25 November to 17 December

This year, also, the a market that is very popular with German-speaking audiences in Santa Ponça again took place. The Christmas market in Santa Ponça, organised by Holger Becker, will once again open its doors in 2023. It traditionally begins on the last Saturday in November (25.11.) and ends on the Sunday before Christmas (17.12.). In 2022, the market was cancelled because the municipality of Calvià wanted to double the rental costs for the site. Becker confirms that he is now paying the original price. The market will again feature familiar elements such as stalls, tents, a biscuit stand and a Lego stand. New this year are some musicians, as some of the previous ones are no longer on the island.

The Opening hours Monday to Friday from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM, and on weekends and public holidays from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. On St. Nicholas Day (6.12.) Are children given gifts. Alongside the Christmas market, there will also be a flea market, which attracts many visitors every year. For children, there is a flea market on 26 November and 10 December, while adults can hunt for bargains on 3 December.

Spanish Village: 1st December to 17th December

In Pueblo Español, a „Spanish village“ in Palma's Son Espanyolet district, Majorcan Christmas will be celebrated from December 1st to 17th, 2023. Visitors can look forward to artificial snow, mulled wine (included in the entrance fee), children's entertainment, and over 60 stalls.

The opening hours vary:

  • 1st to 10th December from 13:00 to 23:00
  • 11th to 14th December from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • 15th to 17th December from 13:00 to 23:00

The market is particularly busy every year many German-speaking visitors Children will have the opportunity to hand in their wish lists and take photos with Santa Claus. New this year are mini-shows, including a fire show, which will be presented for all guests as well as in private performances, explains organiser Tatiana Pilati. In addition to live music and DJ sets, catering will also be provided. The entry fees are 10 Euros for adults, 5 Euros for children aged 9 to 15, and entry is free for younger children. A glass of mulled wine or a hot chocolate is included. Tickets can also be purchased online for the first time, which can help avoid queues at the entrance, according to Pilati.

Palma City: 23 November to 7 January

The Christmas market in Palma will be open daily from November 23rd to January 7th between 10:00 AM and 9:00 PM. A significant change this year is the relocation of stalls from Plaça d’Espanya to Parc de ses Estacions due to renovation work on the square. The locations on La Rambla and Plaça Major remain unchanged. 

Children's attractions that were popular in past years will also be set up outside the Parc de ses Estacions this year. Organisers plan to divide the market into different areas to make each section appealing to the public. The exact placement of the stalls is yet to be decided, depending on the number of stallholders who confirm their participation.

The food and sweet stalls will also be moved to the Parc de ses Estacions. This year, the Focus especially on local products, and artisans are given more space to present their work to visitors.

Officials from the local police force as well as a private security service will ensure safety and order.

Son Amar: 1 December to 22 December

The Christmas Wonderland at the Son Amar event grounds will be hosting a festive experience from the 1st to the 22nd of December on all Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, as well as on the 5th and 6th of December. Visitors can look forward to over 25 stalls, live shows, and an ice skating rink. An opportunity for photos with Santa Claus will also be offered.

Puerto Portals: 14th December to 6th January

The noble port town Puerto Portals is hosting its Christmas market with over 40 stalls and an ice rink from 14th December to 6th January. There are numerous restaurateurs with their exclusive stalls, music, art and individual events for children.

Rat Market: 8th to 10th December

The popular Christmas market is held at the Palma Congress Centre daily from 10:30 am to 8:30 pm. Further information can be found at www.ratamarket.com apparent.

Christmas market in Alaró: 9th and 10th December

Lluc Monastery: 9th and 10th December

The Lluc Monastery is holding its annual Christmas Market weekend from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

Santa Eugènia: 9th December

In Santa Eugènia, the „Christmas market“ is celebrated on December 9th. Information can be found on the Facebook page of the Ajuntament de Santa Eugènia. These events offer a variety of festive activities, from traditional markets to special church services and community gatherings, embodying the Christmas spirit.

Palma – an absolute dream of Christmas lights

The pre-Christmas season in Mallorca officially begins on Thursday, 23rd November, promising a festive atmosphere. This year, it's happening the ceremonial lighting on Passeig des Born and at Plaça de la Reina in Palma de Mallorca am Thursday 23 November at 6 PM. In 2022, 282 kilometres of fairy lights, 1106 illuminated trees and almost 2000 baubles and stars adorned the streets in the Balearic capital. Traditionally, a child, organisation or association is chosen to symbolise the switching on of the lights, accompanied by gasps of astonishment from onlookers.

After the ceremony, the entire city shines in magnificent light, including the Plaça de Cort town hall square and the Plaça Major. Even the small alleys and shopping streets are festively illuminated.
